Today is the Philippine Independence Day (Araw ng Kalayaan) and it
really gives me great privilege to write on this occasion and thank the
Filipino people.
And there are many reasons to do that. Right from the first oil boom, these Pinoys came and helped develop the country. They were in all professions working in hospitals, factories, homes and offices. They worked for long hours, patiently, not complaining.
And there are many reasons to do that. Right from the first oil boom, these Pinoys came and helped develop the country. They were in all professions working in hospitals, factories, homes and offices. They worked for long hours, patiently, not complaining.
They faced great challenges coming to a new environment, braving extreme heat and cold.
They were victims of scams both at home and abroad. Many had to deal
with sponsors who mistreated them and showed no sympathy or
understanding. Yet they continued to work — partly to provide for their
families back home and also because Filipinos, as I discovered, had a
high degree of professionalism. Their contribution is now felt
everywhere.
Filipinos have a distinct quality — they never let pressure get them
down and, as such, smile through the most difficult situations. All
across the Gulf their contributions have impacted our lives.
